Auditing

One of the safety officer’s primary responsibilities is auditing work tasks to verify that JHA and Permit to Work requirements are being followed, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the ship’s safety program. A variety of factors influence his decisions about which tasks to audit. Accidents, injuries and near miss reports are clear indicators that related tasks should be scrutinized. Other factors include new or unusual tasks and tasks involving new personnel, new equipment installations or new operating procedures.
